Jodie Beardmore
Volunteer 2018
I began my journey with The Tetley in 2018, shortly after graduating with a degree in photography from The University of Huddersfield. I was looking for new opportunities and it was then that I discovered the Springboard programme through a call out that I saw online for new participants. The role of a springboard volunteer was incredibly varied and really helped me to develop my artistic practice. I shadowed members of staff from a variety of roles in the gallery, learned how to write a proposal for a creative workshop and eventually went on to teach my proposed idea.
Whilst I was working my volunteer role I was actively looking for my first job in marketing, something I had developed a passion for in my final year of study through promoting my own practice. I was made aware of a marketing internship at the gallery, which I saw as the perfect opportunity to build up my skills and experience in a field I saw a career in. When I took on this role it was an exciting time for The Tetley, as I was involved in their rebrand and helped to edit and update the new website and promote it through social media platforms. I also attended and assisted at the exhibition launches of Tai Shani's Semiramis, Simeon Barclay's Bus2move and other large cultural events like Light Night.
After completing my placement, I went on to secure a full time role as a support and marketing assistant at Fablr Limited, a fantastic digital agency that builds web and mobile applications. I regularly implement the knowledge and capabilities that I gained from The Tetley into my current position in which I have taken the lead in the companies marketing strategy. Alongside this I am still continuing my own work as a photographic artist, and you can view some of my work at the following links below!
